Rameshwardas Pannalal Mahila (RPM) College, located in the historic Chowk Shikarpur area of Patna City, has a legacy of over five decades dedicated to women’s higher education. The college was established on July 26, 1970. It was named after its founder, Late Rameshwardas Pannalal, a prominent social worker who envisioned an institution that would empower women in the culturally rich but then educationally underserved eastern part of Patna. The college’s history is deeply tied to its location. It sits in a “multi-religious hub” near several landmarks: the Takht Sri Patna Sahib (birthplace of Guru Gobind Singh), the Badi Patan Devi Temple, and the Khanqah Munimia and Padri Ki Haveli. For much of its history, RPM College operated as a constituent unit of Magadh University, Bodh-Gaya. However, following the restructuring of the higher education landscape in Bihar on March 18, 2018, it became a constituent unit of the newly formed Patliputra University (PPU), Patna. The college is recognized by the UGC and has been a central pillar for students from Patna City to Fatuha.
